More information
Presented is a round Chinese hard porcelain flat plate. It has a hand painted underglaze blue and white decor under a light bluish white covering. In the center of the plateau we see a flowering pomegranate with leaves, surrounded by a circular frieze with two parallel concentric lines on the inside and one circular line on the outside with a napkin decoration in between. In light relief, a floral motif with leaves is engraved in the flat and the unpainted platform in the pâte. The oblique flat border has a border decoration of lotus flowers around the edge with a frieze of X’s and stripes in a double concentric line on the inside and one circular line on the outside. The lip is somewhat “chewed by mice”. The back is glazed with the exception of the base ring. The plate is not marked and thus intended for export to Europe. Can be dated to the Qianlong period around 1740.
Condition: slightly nibbled lip, but without chips, some black dots in the covering, otherwise very nice plate.
