Shown is a beautiful Chinese porcelain octogonlel serving dish with notched corners. A very balanced blue and white decor has been painted by hand on a light blue glaze. In a beautiful underglaze cobalt blue, a river landscape is painted in the center with a stylized bridge in the foreground with rocks, a boat under a weeping willow, 2 boats in the distance, houses with a figure indoors and a pagoda, and mountains and clouds. The transition is painted with a frieze of waves. The border has been partially left blank to change into a frieze of stripes, a diamond frieze and again a frieze of oblique lines. The edge is left blank. The back shows a glazed border and is unglazed all over the center. The tray is not signed. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty, Jiaqing Imperial Period, ca. 1800.
Condition: a minimal firing flaw, otherwise perfect.
