More information

A Chinese hard porcelain round deep plate with hand-painted famille rose decoration from the imperial period of Yongzhen (1723-35). White glossy glaze. Very finely executed decor. In the center we see an iron-red circled depiction of a somewhat startled woman watching a rooster, with red, yellow and black plumes, mount a white enamelled chicken. She stands in a yard closed by a gate, with a white-pink pot behind her. Furthermore, various branches and flowers, including a peony. The fairly steep elevation has been largely left blank and turns into a flat, sloping edge that is decorated with very finely hand-painted alternating decorative motifs such as the lotus flower and stylized ruji motifs, with a napkin decoration in fine famille rose or with small brown circles. with a bulbous plant in the center. The cassius rose is lined with white enamel, creating an opaque spatial effect. On the back with light gray glaze we see three ling-chih motifs in brown underglaze on the edge. The sign is not marked.

Condition: minimal chip on the edge, colors slightly faded here and there, but overall in very good condition and very nice plate. Yonghzhen ca.1730.
