Shown is a tall Chinese porcelain ginger jar with lid. The pot has a wide round base to slowly widen and narrow again from its top quarter into an inward sliding, round-mouthed shoulder. A recessed round slightly raised lid fits into this, which has a pine cone-shaped handle in the center. The pot and lid are hand painted in underglaze blue and white all around with two large peonies surrounded by foliage. At the base and the border we see stylistically executed lotus plants. The underside is, except for a limited part, not glazed. In the center is the pseudo-mark for Chien Lung, hand-brushed in gray ink, in a rectangle. The pot dates from the mid-20th century.
