This glass factory in Nancy, Lorraine, succeeded in producing an artistically refined mass production of glasses in addition to the production of unique examples. The latter did not become clichéd in series production and, in terms of decoration and material, retained the charm of the unique, handmade. There was a perfect relationship between art and industry. On display is a beautiful unique glass decanter with stopper (!), made in the early Art Nouveau period by the Daum brothers, Nancy France. A short rounded peduncle emerges from a broad round base, after which a pear-shaped corpus unfolds to narrow into a long cylindrical neck that spreads into a three-lobed externally drawn rim. Fits an elongated stopper with a balloon-shaped facetted aspect that is gilded at the top. The lip and edge of the foot are also gilded. A light gray semi-opaque frosted acid-etched glass layer is applied to clear glass, which is also raised in relief. A more landscape decor in black “en grisaille” has been enamelled on one side with extreme precision and hand-painted. The base is nicely polished at the bottom. In the center is the mark “Daum Nancy with the cross of Lorraine” brushed in gold by hand. This decanter dates from ca. 1895-1900.

Condition: some scratches at the foot of the stopper, otherwise perfect.
