Meer informatie

Large quantities of faience were made in France before and during the French Revolution in 1793. It concerns the so-called; Faience Revolutionary. The majority (90%) was painted by the Nevers factory. Here we see a faience round scaly plate where on a white tin glaze layer on the shelf in underglaze high fire colors blue, brown, yellow-ocher and pink, the image of Marie Antoinette, was transfer printed with painted details. Marie Antoinette was the last queen of France before the French Revolution. In 1774 her husband ascended the throne as Louis XVI and became queen. The sign is dated “1793”. The area is outlined by a black concentric line. The elevation and sloping flat edge are painted with a frieze of flowers and leaves. At the back, the plate is also tin-glazed with a rosy pâte shine through. There is no stand ring. We also see three must on which the plate was baked. The plate is quite heavy in weight. It is not marked. It was made around 1820.

Condition: edge flake, otherwise perfectly normal condition.
