What you see here is a superb breathtaking polychrome decorated Japanese dish. When looking at this dish you will fall back on the hand-painted polychrome decor of which one wonders how someone can achieve such a thing. You name it: geometric diamond motifs, swirls, geisha, fantastic figures with monster, burning dragon, gilded three-clawed curved dragons, a floating phoenix, lotus plant, mushrooms, cartouches, rain landscape, cloud motifs,…. The color palette is also overwhelming in underglaze dark blue and overglaze very extensive petit feu palette. Here and there there are also relief elevations. This is very heavily painted but in the end forms an incredibly harmonized whole that is perfectly balanced, partly due to the extensive use of the ivory-colored white covering. Describing this dish in detail makes no sense. The attached photos say enough. The back is also beautifully painted on the collar with three Imari style polychrome hand-painted lotus plants and birds. Externally of the thick rounded base ring there are three parallel concentric circles and one on the inside of it. There are also two proons (indicating a time before 1850) in the central part, as well as the remains of a paper sticker. The dish is not marked. How many hours of work must have been required for this? You can. also look at this for hours. Incredible top work! Late Edo period.

Condition: just perfect!
