Presented here are two very beautiful slim Japanese Imari baluster vases on a round base. They are hand painted with a floral decoration on the corpus including lotus flowers, chrysanthemums, and two houses, in the classic colors of dark underglaze cobalt blue, and overglaze iron red and gold on a light bluish-white covering. On both sides of each vase, a landscape decor with a house on the water and with a prunus tree and clouds is painted in a blue-gilded thick-outlined cartouche. The shoulder is clearly outlined from the corpus by gilded dark blue in which two cartouches with again a landscape and floral decoration on the white covering with house. The transition to the cylindrical neck is delineated by a blue line all around and the neck shows a floral decoration with leaves. At the top, the neck widens into a rounded edge. The edge is covered with a round gilded bronze covering including palmettes. At the height of the foot we also see a floral decoration like on the neck, this in a frieze, delineated by one blue circular line at the top and by a double circular blue line below. At the bottom we see an unglazed rim and a light bluish crackled cover in the center of one vase, the other shows an unglazed layer of sludge with cracks. The base is embedded in a raised gilt bronze round structure with pearl rim, flowers and C-curls, typical rococo motif from the Louis XV period, darkened by age but this certainly has its own charm. The 2 vases must therefore date from before 1750.

Condition: both perfect. Top!
