What we see here is a large round porcelain flat wall dish. It is hand-painted in polychrome with a horror vacuum in underglaze blue-purple and overglaze enamel colors, in which the turquoise stands out in particular, in addition to iron-red, yellow, green, ivory-colored white, orange,… The contours of the motifs are applied in sgraffito technique. The broad plateau is painted in the center, surrounded by two concentric blue lines, with a slightly sunken star-shaped blue and yellow floral motif in a tomato-red six-lobed cartouche. The plateau is further filled with three cartouches with floral and curling work and arabesques, as well as three large U-shaped cartouches that run from the center to the top of the board. They have a fresh turquoise color with, among other things, lotus plants, waves and flying cranes in raised relief. The elevation shows a purple-blue gilded frieze with small circles in iron-red filled with yellow characters. Some elements are cut out in sgraffito technique and raised in relief. There is also scattered gilding. The wide, slightly sloping collar has three large cartouches with floral motifs and rocks. In between there is a dark purple-blue background with several rosettes and curls. The lip is brushed with olive greenish. At the bottom the border is painted all around with five concentric circles in underglaze blue and the border itself shows four large lotus plants in dark blue underglaze. The back is completely glazed except for the round base ring. In the center we see a blue line around and the remains of three proons, which confirms a Japanese origin. Very special are the many small “pits” in the glaze, both on the front and back, but these are more decorative than damaging. The sign is not marked. So strangely excellent rare Japanese Persian dish. Perhaps in the early 18th century.
