Basil Ede was born in England in 1931. During his lifetime he became one of the most famous bird painters, especially that of North America. In 1979, the Franklin Porcelain department of Haviland Limoges France, published a special edition of the various bird scenes painted by Basil Ede. All these plates have an 18 carat gold edge. Each plate is signed on the front edge with the name Basil Ede in black handwriting. On the back, each plate is marked in gold with “Game birds of the World by Basil Ede”, the name of the bird in capital letters, and “Crafted exclusively for Franklin Porcelain by Haviland, Limoges, France” and “Franklin Porcelain 1979 ”.
