What we present here is one of the top works in figural porcelain art, executed in Meissen by Kändler and Eberlein, two top modelers in the late Baroque and Rococo style. It concerns the so-called “the kiss”. It comprises the depiction in hard porcelain with white pâte and hand-painted polychrome decoration of two lovers giving a kiss one after the other. This masterpiece was put up for auction in London in 1999 during the world famous “Giuseppe Rossi Collection” auction at Sotheby’s. It concerns a group of figures in which the woman, with beautiful black hair (we see the individual locks), wears a white long dress with a purple and yellow cape over it. The man has a white shirt with a blue jacket and wears black and burgundy-colored shorts. The faces and hands have a flesh-colored look. It is striking that the left leg of the woman and the left, red with blue bow, shoe of the man extend beyond the edge of the foot. This foot is oval and slightly raised and on the man’s right leg lies a pug. Several flowers and leaves have been placed in relief. The foot has an almost chopped edge. The figures sit on a kind of rock. At the bottom we see an unglazed light gray base with a small opening, where small clay remains adhere to it. The image is not marked. However, based on the description written above, it is indisputably an original Meissen object, made with certainty by J.J. Kändler and Eberlein, in late baroque style, and date back to around 1740. It was customary at that time to remove the glaze and also the underglaze blue crossed sword mark. This explains the lack of the known mark of Meissen porcelain and this is therefore normal. So absolutely original, rare top work!

Condition: left leg of the woman possibly restored, otherwise perfect, not seen under UV light.
