Remarkably light in weight is this “Soviet Polonne ZHK USSR” porcelain hand-painted group of figures of two dancing Cossacks in classical costume. Hopak or Gopak is the name of the well-known Ukrainian and also Russian Cossack dance. Both figures are straddled, one with one hand on his side and the other on his head. The other figure wears an accordion with a number “2” on it, and has striking light yellow hair. The feet serve as the basis. This is a significantly older release than the many that can be bought on ebay. ZHK Polonne porcelain factory of art ceramics was one of the oldest porcelain companies in Ukraine. It was founded at the end of the 19th century and existed until recently. On one of the feet of the Cossack with orange jacket, the stamped mark “2 ?? c” in light blue and also in blue is the numbers “5 – 20” and in black the number “14”.
