It was through the hands of the Frenchman Léon Ledru, who was in charge of the company’s artistic direction, that the Art Nouveau forms appeared in the Val-Saint-Lambert production. In 1905 Ledru hired the brothers Henri and Désiré Müller. These former Gallé collaborators continued to work in Val-Saint-Lambert until 1909, developing a style related to the Nancy school. The clear or double crystal with typical geometric shapes, which was produced before 1900, was replaced by a style with a variety of shades and contrasting sparkles, in which the symbolism of the flower predominated, as it were in the blossoming of a never-before-seen ending spring. On display is a museum soliflore vase from the early Art Nouveau period, produced by the Val Saint Lambert glass industry by the brothers Henri and Désiré Müller. It concerns a blown pear-shaped vase with a spherical corpus, merging into a long narrowing cylindrical neck to end in a spreading rim with two externally drawn lips. Clear acid etched glass has a crimson glass layer applied to the top edge. Above, as well as at the base, a dirty yellow powder enamel layer is laid apart with blue, purple and crimson powder inclusions. Two additional layers of glass (yellow and crimson) have been applied in a raised fluo-engraved metallized cameo, with blue and green inclusions, depicting a beautiful leaf and stem motif with berries, both on the body and on the neck. The monogrammed mark “VSL” is visible in yellow cameo at the bottom. This was applied in the period of the brothers Müller in 1906-1907. At the bottom we see a nicely patinated pontille. Top museum work! Condition: some age-related wear, otherwise perfect.
