Royal Vienna is the generic name given to items made in a particular decorative style reminiscent of Renaissance paintings and sculptures. Strong elements of Greek classicism are almost always present and the color palette seems to be dominated by soft tones and romantic vibrancy. What is currently called Royal Vienna are also products of other manufactories after the Vienna manufactory closed in 1864. On display is a sublime porcelain set of two (Greek) baluster-shaped Royal Vienna vases on a raised cylindrical foot, merging via a narrower stem into a baluster-shaped body, made by one of the countless smaller manufactories in Vienna that were founded from 1864. They did use the old moules of the Imperial and Royal Viennese factory, which closed itself in 1864. At the top, the cylindrical neck is ajourned, which changes into a slightly spreading lip. On a dark cobalt blue ground decorated with gilded arabesques, floral motifs and gilded rings, there are two zones on the body, on a gold-coloured ground with countless minuscule gilded granules, hand-painted separate mythological scenes painted in pastel with great detail. On one vase we see the name of the painter, “F Kohl.”, on a white column. On the other vase the same name is brushed in gold in the decor. In one vase we see a decor of an old old man rowing a boat with several figures. In the center is a standing man who plays a harp with an angelic figure on the side. On the other side, we see a scene of six women whose middle one is in danger of passing out, perhaps as a result of a snake bite. At the far right we see a young man and an older man who tries to kill the snake with canes. At the front of the other vase is a decor of four women, one of whom plays the harp and the other the flute. In between we see two lions in profile, each with a naked youth, one of which carries a banner. On the other side, sitting on a float with garlands, a girl in white dress who may be getting married, accompanied by a figure playing the harp. They are preceded by a girl playing the flute and a lion. The handles are very simple, outlined in cobalt color by gilding. Both vases are marked at the bottom with an overglaze cobalt-colored beehive style with appendages above and below. This is therefore not the mark of the Imperial and Royal Viennese manufacture from the 18th century to 1864, where the cobalt blue mark was always underglaze hand-painted. We also see a gold-plated oval license plate on the base. So far I have not been able to find out which manufacturer is involved. It is a fact that Royal Vienna made between 1880 and 1930 is very much appreciated today.

Condition: perfect.
