We are showing an exclusive and very beautiful hand-painted original print on Japanese textiles from the mid-19th century. Two women stand and sit at a yellow-colored bench at a fence in a landscape with a blooming prunus tree in the distance. There is a kind of breakfast box on the bench. They wear high sandals, one of which lies on the ground. The full white moon shines in the top left corner. They are approached by a man wearing checked clothing who is holding a piece of ironwork in his hand with various colored paper sheets with Japanese inscriptions attached to it. We see several marks in both the right distal corner and the top corner, one of which is in a yellow fan. The meaning is unknown to me. This textile painting was made by Utagawa Hiroshige II (1826-1869) and dates from 1862. It is called “Moon in the Plum Orchard near Kameido”.

Condition: the textile is not completely flat, but otherwise in perfect condition.
