Meer informatie

Shown are two superb candlesticks in hard porcelain made by the world famous manufacturer Meissen, founded in 1710 as the first hard porcelain producing company in Europe. They are made in full rococo style. They have a wavy slightly raised base with gilt edge with embossed Gotzkowsky type pattern with gilt volutes. Then they pass into a lobed conical tabernacle from which a vertical twisted trunk departs, which, after a narrowing, opens into a lobed cylindrical bobèche. The tabernacle is hand-painted with three polychrome flower bouquets, the trunk also has scattered flowers and the relief raised volutes are painted in turquoise, the bobèche has flowers all around. Also gilding everywhere. The underside is glazed, except for the foot ring. One candlestick is marked with the crossed swords, the intersection of which is very high, which indicates an 18th century mark. The other candlestick is marked with two large crossed swords. At the bottom is a horizontal line notched, which usually indicates that the decoration was done elsewhere. Both are imprinted with the set number “28.” and painter number painted in green “11.”. This pair of identical candlesticks thus dates from the 18th century, and this from around 1765.

Condition: the trunk sagged somewhat during firing and is not perpendicular, one candlestick has some glaze cracks at the bottom during the firing process, otherwise in perfect condition.
