At AC Silver we are fortunate to offer jewelery and silverware from the legendary maker, Asprey ∓ Co Ltd. Founded in 1781 by William Asprey, the Asprey company quickly became known for making leather goods, homewares and silverware. Asprey marketed itself as a luxury brand from the start, stating that their goods were for ‘people of refinement and discernment’ – and the company’s reputation has only become more prestigious. In 1862, the Asprey company received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria, gaining much royal attention and business from monarchs around the world. Asprey ∓ Co Ltd has, at various times in its 240 years, manufactured coronets, crowns and sceptres for numerous royal families. The company experienced a further increase in popularity and prestige in the 1920s, when it became a popular choice for the American elite looking for top quality goods from across the Atlantic, with cigarette cases being a very popular collectible. We are showing an exclusive silver vermeille cigarette case made by the world famous silver and gold producer Asprey from London. It has a clear art deco shape with dozens of small cubes on its surface. It is opened via a rectangular push and slide button where the tube opens automatically. The tube also closes perfectly. The inside is completely gold-plated, so-called vermeille or gold-plated silver. It is minted stamped “Asprey London”, with A&CoLTD, a left walking lion for London, a shield for Sterling silver and the capital letter “M”. In large capital letters are the initials “G.B.” stamped. The case dates from the Art Deco revival period, 1947.

Condition: perfect.
