Rosenthal was founded in 1879 and was quickly moved to Selb near Berlin. Several other porcelain manufacturers were acquired. In 1939 the name was changed to “Rosenthal Porzellan AG”. In 1945 the factory was closed temporarily but reopened from 1951 to 1971. In 1960, the son Philip joined the company and played an important role in modern style design. In 1969 the name “Rosenthal AG” was introduced. In 1997, it was 90% owned by the Waterford Wedgwood Group and the company had grown into Germany’s leading porcelain manufacturer and world market leader. In 2009, however, the bankruptcy followed and the company was taken over by the Italian Sambonet-Paderno Group.

Shown is a beautiful fish set in bone china porcelain, made by the Rosenthal factory. It consists of six large round plates, five spherical bowls and one large terrine with lid. The plates are overglazed on the edge with a red lobster and gray shell, flower and fish. The bowls are also printed on the inside with a red lobster. The round tureen on six legs with a beautiful handle has a round lid with a red lobster on top in full plastic relief. The edge of all pieces has a gold-plated trim. At the bottom, the objects in the center are stamped in underglaze green with “Rosenthal Germany” (1962) for the tureen and “Rosenthal Kronach-Germany” (1945-46) on the other objects. The plates bear the gilded numbers “1518 35”, the bowls “1518/21”, “1518/3”, “1518/11”, the tureen “1518/3”.

Condition: all perfect.
