Meer informatie

Presented is a beautiful double inkwell on foot, made of faience with pale pink pâte van Rouen, overlaid with a light bluish tin glaze. On an octagonal plateau with raised walls, an octagonal box-shaped double inkwell with ink container and lid is attached to an octagonal low plinth. The plateau has a frieze of copper-red circular motifs on the edge and on the sloping wall is hand painted in underglaze high-fire colors green, yellow, blue and red with six tendrils and flowers. The base as well as the top edge of the inkwell has the same red geometric motif. The walls of the octagonal inkwell are brushed with the Rouan décor “à la corne d’abbondance” and floral motifs. The top surface is by means of a band divided into two round openings in which the cylindrical, with wider flat circular edge, fit inkwells. These have a round slightly domed lid with a button-shaped handle. These are also painted polychrome. Glazed at the bottom with the exception of the octagonal base ring. On the edge of the base ring in the central plane, the plateau is marked in manganese brown with “891” and “FRANCE”.

Condition: multiple shards, ink stains and hairlines, but this is not a problem.
