Raymond Henri Chevallier was born in 1900 in Auxerre, France and died in 1959 in Lille. He worked in the Longwy pottery workshop and attended the famous Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in 1925 in Paris. We then find him as director of the less well-known but interesting workshop of the Céramique de Bruxelles, between 1935 and 1937. In 1937 Chevallier is director of the Kéramis studio. He succeeded Charles Catteau in 1940. His designs are quite exuberant and colorful. He worked for Boch until 1954. On display is an exuberant overglaze enamel hand-decorated tea set for two people, a so-called tête à tête. It consists of an octagonal tray, a teapot with lid, a milk jug, a sugar bowl with lid and two tea cups on hexagonal saucers. The teapot has a round globulous corpus, as does the sugar bowl. The bags are wide semi-spherical. With a horror vacuum, all objects are completely hand-painted with pastel colors that display a busy floral decor. The interior of the standing objects is painted in turquoise. Striking is the thick gilding that is applied to all outer edges and handles. Also striking is the brown granular aspect of the lids and also the double handles of all objects. The back is glazed white, and the tray has a turquoise border. On the back of the saucers we see “Décor limité Ht, no. 250, D.2919, shape number 56A, BFK for Boch Frères Keramis and RC for Raymond Chevalier”, at the bottom of the bags we see the decor number 2919 and shape number 1456 in black. Also the well-known round stamp of Boch Frères La Louvière. This tea set can be dated to 1940, so still in the manifest Art Deco period.

Condition: almost perfect, damage to the edge at the back.
