This object is a very beautiful, rare teapot with lid. It is (exceptionally) overlaid with a yellow background (yellow is the imperial color) on a very white covering. In the yellow background there are four round recesses with the white covering exposed in which each time a different Chinese symbol is painted underglaze in a light brown color. There are also floral motifs in famille rose, the outlines of which are engraved in the yellow background and shard. On both sides we see a blooming lotus plant surrounded by foliage and scrollwork, the outlines of which are also carved. There is only a minimal stand ring. The corpus of the teapot is U-shaped and merges at the top into a flat plateau in which a carved and black decorated meander pattern. This plateau changes into a relatively low, smaller cylindrical neck in which the lid fits. The handle is ear-shaped with a bend at the top, the spout is slightly S-shaped. The last two elements are also covered with a yellow ground on which green curls have been painted. The recessed round lid has a non-glazed brown oxidised circular neck at the bottom, the slightly curved surface also has a yellow background in which floral motifs are engraved and painted in a famille rose palette. Button-shaped handle. Inside we see a white cover and six holes at the origin of the spout. On the base, the nianhao of Emperor Kuang hsü (1874-1908), hand painted in overglaze in iron red.
Good condition. No defects are seen under UV light.
