Presented is a rare ten-sided plaque in Delft faience. It is a decorative object with straight, rounded and tucked-in edges made of a thick brown-colored pâte covered with a beautiful white tin glaze. The ten-sided flat is hand painted with an underglaze cobalt blue decor of two beautifully painted three-master sailing boats (schooners) in a maritime landscape. In the top they hoisted several Dutch flags with an engraved copper-red band. To the left and right we see several houses and trees and a church. In the sky there are birds and a cloud pattern. The flat is lined with a blue line. The steep elevation is painted all around with a blue band and marked by two parallel lines. The embossed border is painted alternately on a blue background with blue white-rimmed flowers and white leaves. The edge has been left blank. The edge of the piece is completely brushed in cobalt blue. At the top there is a lobed semi-circular ornament with a hole in the center, so that the object could be hung. At the bottom, the base is covered with a light bluish tin glaze with many dots. In the center is an old vignette of antique dealer Mme A. Avonds van Antwerpen with “Artis Amore” in red. The plaque is not marked, but that was still the custom around that time. It can be dated to the first half of the 18th century.

Condition: as can be expected, the tin glaze is worn on the edges but otherwise in perfect condition. Top job!
