Shown is a teapot with lid, made from faience fine or creamware, England, with a hand-painted blue and white chinoiserie decor. The teapot is round and has a globular corpus. On both sides is the same decor of a pagoda with a floor on the water surrounded by rocks, conifers and a prunus tree. Delimited at the top by a chain-shaped frieze. It has a low round base and neck. with S-shaped spout with embossed palmettes. Very special handle of two intertwined braided flat ribbed bands, with a rosette and leaf motif in relief at both the top and bottom attachment. The subtle round slightly domed lid is also painted in blue and white and has a beautiful handle of a flower in relief, called convolvulus or bindweed. The base ring and base are glazed with fine crazing. In the center we see a blind stamped and raised circle in which the letter “B” is imprinted, possibly Bristol or Leeds. However, preference is given to Leeds creamware from the late 18th century.
Condition: minimal defect on the edge and base, defect on one of the handle straps, otherwise in good condition.
