Shown is a porcelain plaque polychrome hand-painted with an exceptionally very beautifully executed figure of Christ over which a shiny lead glaze has been applied. This painting is most likely inspired by the 17th century painting by the baroque painter Guido Reni (1575-1642) “Crowned Christ with a crown of thorns”. Christ is pictured here before the crucifixion with his head turned to heaven wondering “why did you forsake me?” The painting is not signed. The rectangular porcelain plaque is not marked either, but is continental in origin and dates from the 19th century or earlier. We do see the imprinted number “255”. The plaque is framed in a deep rectangular wooden oak frame that may be original. On the front it is gilded with typical symmetrical baroque features: pearl rim, all-round frieze of arabesques, foliage and flowers. Really top piece!
