In 1909, Max Adolf Pfeiffer founded a department in the “Unterweisbacher Werkstätten” for porcelain art with the name “Schwarzburger Werkstätten”. In 1913, however, he left for Meissen. In the mid-1920s Unterweisbach was united with the Volkstedt manufactory, under the direction of Dr Edmund Tröster. The factory is still active today.
Black and white glazed porcelain statue (lamp base) “Pierrot”, design Roland Paris (France, 1894-1945), and executed around ca. 1920 by the “Schwarzburger Werkstätten” in Germany. Partially black glazed collar with black buttons on the coat. Eyes, eyebrows and mouth light brown-red colored. This is a stately sad Pierrot, head bowed. At the back we see a column with two openings, one for the lampshade with stand, and one for the electrical wiring. Both are missing. Opening at the bottom to the internal glazed wall by slip casting. Although not complete, the statue itself is a beautiful and typical example of the sleek geometric art deco style. This remains a work of art. The figure is not marked.
The condition is perfect.
