Presented is a sublime and rare early diamond-shaped vase, made by the Daum Frères glass factory in Nancy France, and belonging to the four seasons, in this case winter. A frosted glass layer has been applied to clear glass, partly raised with green, partly with gray color pigment. In it are several small flowers engraved in clear glass in relief, the edge of which is raised with gold with hand-painted veins in black enamel. The stems are engraved in relief and also overlaid with gold. In the lower half in the gray frosted glass layer a zone of clear glass has been cut, and on the other side enamelled on a gray background in which a superb winter landscape with bare trees is painted, “en grisaille”, with opaque white snowflakes. Top and bottom edges are shiny and dull gold plated respectively. On the clear glass base we see the gold handwritten mark “Daum ‡ Nancy”. Early mark, to be situated between 1890-96.
Condition: gold on top edge slightly worn, but otherwise in an incredibly beautiful condition. Very rare item! Top object!
