Alexander Kelety was born in Budapest and was active as a sculptor from 1918 to 1940, the year he died. He emigrated to France after the First World War. In 1928 and 1930 he exhibited chryséléphantines performed by Goldscheider. In 1925 he participated in the “l’Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriëls” in Paris. His favorite materials are bronze, ivory, marble and ceramics. He often depicts animals or children. The image that we present here is a figure in frontal plane of an apine with her young seated between her legs, while she is fleas. It is made in terre even and covered with various lead glazes in brown, gray and black color. The image is slipcast cast. The depiction is in typical art deco style. It has a very intimate look to it. The figures are seated on an oval raised base. At the back on the edge of the base, the image is marked in the mold with “A Kelety”, but this is difficult to read and even more difficult to photograph. Inside there is a stamp in light blue in a rectangle but this is (to me) definitely illegible.
Perfect condition.
