René Lalique, the grand master of glass production during the Art Deco period, developed this coupe in 1928. The round deep coupe, for the center of the table, was made using the moule pressé technique. It is made of clear, rather thick glass with an opalescent brownish floral decoration of three large sunflowers and three smaller ones in relief. The coupe rests on the center of the sunflowers molded in relief. These are also slightly bluish iridescent. The object is marked in the mold in relief with “R. LALIQUE. FRANCE ”, with a double-tailed Q. Under this mark we see, if we look very carefully, that this piece is also numbered, namely with the engraved numbers “N.395”! What is intriguing is the height of my cut: 4.8 cm, while many other coupes for sale always mention Vernon as the height of 5.5 cm. However, my yardstick is of good quality. Also, the opalescence of my haircut is clearly more discreet than the others. I think I own a very early model of the Vernon coupe that has not yet been listed, not even in F. Marcilhac’s Catalog Raisonné, or the others are fake!
Condition: a number of very superficial scratches on the bottom and one on the side wall, which do not detract from the beauty of the piece. Otherwise perfect.
